Nowhere else can you do your diver’s license cheaper than on Koh Tao. There are plenty of diving schools that are pushing each other’s prices. I did my diving license at Roctopus and I can totally recommend the diving school as well as the crew. In addition, Ko Tao is also great for snorkeling!
Nirgendwo sonst kann man seinen Tauchschein günstiger machen als auf Ko Tao. Es gibt jede Menge Tauchschulen, die gegenseitig die Preise drücken. Ich habe meinen Tauchschein bei Roctopus gemacht und kann die Tauchschule als auch die Crew nur empfehlen. Darüber hinaus eignet sich Ko Tao auch prima zum Schnorcheln!
To explore the island, you can rent a scooter or a motorbike, but beware: the routes on Ko Tao are not for beginners. There is a reason why you can see people everywhere with their arms and legs bandaged, and every second person you meet can tell a scooter accident story. But even experienced drivers should be careful. The roads can be very steep, there are potholes and you can easily slip. An experienced driver and I still managed to slide and fall down, but luckily nothing bad happened.
Um die Insel zu erkunden, kannst du dir einen Roller oder ein Motorrad ausleihen, aber Vorsicht: die Strecken auf Ko Tao sind nichts für Anfänger. Nicht ohne Grund sieht man überall Menschen mit verbundenen Armen und Beinen und gefühlt jede zweite Person, die man trifft, kann eine Roller-Unfall-Geschichte erzählen. Aber auch erfahrene Fahrer sollten vorsichtig sein. Die Straßen können sehr steil sein, es gibt Schlaglöcher und man kommt leicht ins Rutschen. Ein erfahrerer Fahrer und ich haben es aber trotzdem geschafft, auszurutschen und uns lang zu legen, aber zum Glück ist nichts passiert.
At Mae Haad beach is the harbor of Ko Tao and you will arrive there. Some tourists stay right there. You can swim only north and south, so off the boats in the harbor.
Am Mae Haad Strand liegt der Hafen von Ko Tao, und dort werdet ihr auch ankommen. Manche Touristen bleiben direkt dort. Schwimmen kann man aber nur nördlich und südlich, also abseits der Boote im Hafen.
I walked from here to Sairee Beach. Retrospectively, I would might do it differently. But if you arrive at Mae Haad beach, you will of course also be sieged by drivers who want to drive you to Sairee Beach. In my memory it was overpriced – so I decided to walk. Because I had I downloaded the map from Ko Tao via Maps.me I knew where to go. But with the backpack on the back, the slopes and the heat, it was not so great.
Ich bin von hier bis zum Sairee Beach gelaufen. Im Nachhinein würde ich es vielleicht anders machen. Aber wenn man am Mae Haag Strand ankommt, wird man natürlich auch von Fahrern belagert, die einen zum Sairee Beach fahren wollen, in meiner Erinnerung war es überteuert – also lief ich. Ich hatte die Karte von Ko Tao via Maps.me heruntergeladen und wusste daher, wo lang ich gehen musste. Aber mit dem Backpack auf dem Rücken, den Steigungen und der Hitze, war es dann doch nicht so toll.
I stayed at the Indiehostel and I really had a great time! The dorms have their own little cabins with blinds that you can close, so you have your privacy even in a dorm. There is also a café downstairs, where you can get great bagels among other things. http://www.indiekohtao.com
Ich schlief im Indiehostel und fand es super! Die Dorms haben ihre eigenen kleinen Kabinen, die man mit einer Jalousie zuziehen kann, also hat man selbst in einem Schlafsaal seine Privatsphäre. Außerdem gibt es unten ein Café, in dem es u.a. tolle Bagels gibt. http://www.indiekohtao.com
Sairee Beach
This beach is the most popular one and the sunrises are beautiful. The nightlife is very popular, especially for backpackers and I just loved the area. If you walk the small path near Sairee Beach down to the south, you will find some opportunities to borrow a mountain bike. A friend and I borrowed two bikes in a diving school and from there we headed south to Sai Nun Beach.
Dieser Strand ist der beliebteste und die Sonnenaufgänge sind wunderschön. Das Nachtleben ist gerade bei Backpackern sehr beliebt und ich fand die Gegend einfach super. Wenn man den kleinen Weg nahe Sairee Beach Richtung Süden läuft, findet man einige Möglichkeiten, sich ein Mountainbike zu leihen. Eine Freundin und ich liehen uns zwei Bikes in einer Tauchschule und von dort starteten wir Richtung Süden zum Sai Nun Beach
The small island group Ko Nang Yuan – it is worthwhile to start by boat in the very early morning from the neighboring Ko Tao, because many visitors want to visit Ko Nang Yuan. By noon at the latest it is full of tourists and the idyllic flair is gone – so come early or late afternoon. Ideally, you rent a boat with others and take a half-day tour and start in the morning. There is also a resort on the island, so you have the opportunity to have the island a little more for yourself – when all the half-day tourists leave.
Die kleine Inselgruppe Ko Nang Yuan – es lohnt sich sehr früh morgens mit dem Boot vom benachbarten Ko Tao zu starten, denn sehr viele Besucher wollen Ko Nang Yuan besuchen. Spätestens ab der Mittagszeit wimmelt es von Touristen und der idyllische Flair ist dahin – also kommt früh oder am späten Nachmittag. Idealerweise mietet man sich mit anderen ein Boot und macht eine Halbtagestour und startet morgens. Es gibt auch ein Resort auf der Insel, so dass man die Möglichkeit hat, die Insel etwas mehr für sich zu haben – nämlich dann, wenn die ganzen Halbtags-Touristen wieder abreisen.
